Julian of The Strokes

You guys know how each Strokes member have their own thing that they do when they perform live that gives you chills? (there’s actually a term for it: musical frisson).

How Albert has his guitar slung high-up and he goes a little slack-jawed and even has eyes closed sometimes as he loses himself in the riffs?

How Nick does the exact same thing except that his slung so low he kinda curves his body into his guitar and instead of closing his eyes like albert his just glazes over?

How Nikolai remains poised in his power stance (feet apart) in the exact same spot focusing on the rhythm all the while exuding a kind of benign passion so rare?

How Fab stoops low over his drums, giving his all, non-stop, throughout their entire gig, grimacing, burning as perhaps only drummers can?

Of course you do. ALL Strokes fans do.

To me, Julian, when he sings/screams into the microphone, clinging to it, his eyes closed, losing himself, it’s like every fiber of his being sings what unsayables his soul harbours - and us fans gets it. His eyes may be closed but he’s gazing at us and we see him. Through the music, we see each other.

That’s his thing. So this here is a collage of those moments when Julian sings with his eyes closed yet his soul never more open.

This is cheesy as heck, no? But this is my love for the only and only, The Strokes.
